Blood drive to honor cousins fighting cancer | Wichita Eagle

The American Red Cross, along with two local families, is hosting a blood drive this week to honor two cousins fighting cancer.

Mason Meyer, 2, was diagnosed last December with a multi-grade oligoastrocytoma, a form of brain cancer. His cousin, Bekah Crowe, 14, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in September. The Meyer and Crowe families are hosting the event and encouraging people to donate blood.

?By sharing their story, we hope people in our community will make time to give blood to help these and other children facing cancer,? said their great aunt, Terrie Cross, in a news release issued by the American Red Cross.

The Wichita Blood Donor Center hours are:

Monday through Wednesday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; closed Thanksgiving Day; Friday, 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. On Wednesday and Friday donors will receive a gift card for a free Dillons Food Stores pie, while supplies last.

To donate blood or to receive more information, call 800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment. All blood types are needed; walk-ins are accepted.

On Thanksgiving Day, the center will be open for platelet donors. To find out more about giving platelets, call 316-268-0875 or call toll free at 866-206-0694.
