Almost half of Irish population has Facebook account

The number of Facebook users in Ireland grew by 127,060 in the last six months, according to social media monitoring site socialbakers.com.

Up to 2.25 million Irish people now use the site, that is nearly half, 48.7%, of the country's population.

Figures from socialbakers.com show that the top Irish pages on the Facebook are U2, the Script and the Cranberries.

Meanwhile, Facebook fatigue could be hitting Britain.

Around 600,000 British users failed to log on last month, indicating a dip in interest.

Up to 33 million people in Britain have a Facebook account.
