Les Cockrell: Aubrey sports fan wins annual baseball trivia contest

Shaun Boyle, an Aubrey Area Library board member and an avid sports fan, recently received several prizes as a winner in the annual ?Step Up to the Plate @ Your Library? baseball trivia contest.

Included in the prize package was a miniature Louisville Slugger baseball bat, a poster picturing Jackie Robinson and a National Baseball Hall of Fame commemorative yearbook.

The contest, designed to promote libraries and librarians as essential information resources, is a partnership between the Baseball Hall of Fame and the American Library Association. A total of 21 winners were selected at random from completed entries with one correct answer for each of four bases, according to contest information at the American Library Association website.

?After over 30 years of watching, participating in and playing the game, I found the questions incredibly challenging,? Boyle stated in a press release from Kathy Ramsey, director of the Aubrey Area Library.

Ramsey also reminded residents that there?s still time to take advantage of the library?s ?Food for Fines? program, which runs through Jan. 31. Residents can erase their fines and help others with gifts of soup or peanut butter. A can of soup will erase $4 in fines, and a jar of peanut butter is worth $8 in fines, Ramsey said.

?Everything benefits the food bank,? she said.

The Aubrey Area Library is located at 226 Countryside Drive.
